Govt aims to reach 10m citizens with R350 grant

Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu says the aim of reaching 10 million South Africans with the R350 grant will soon become a reality.

She's held a briefing in Pretoria on Monday on the Social Relief of Distress Grant and the Child Support 'top-up'.


The R350 grant is currently reaching nearly 7.5 million people.


Zulu has also encouraged those who qualify to apply for the Child Support allowance, which was increased by R240 to R720 per child per month in June.

"The additional R240 to the standard R480 is enabled by a 2015 Cabinet-approved policy. The provisions of this policy enables me as the Minister of Social Development to introduce the higher value child support grant top-up for orphans. 


"And we know the impact of this social grant, we know the support and the assistance that it gives to our people."
