Govt addressing your challenges one by one, Ramaphosa tells Sedibeng residents

President Cyril Ramaphosa has promised residents of Sedibeng on the West Rand that government would address their issues one by one.

He was speaking at a presidential imbizo on Friday.
“We are addressing these challenges one by one. The one challenge that really stood out and got the nation to look at your areas was the sewerage that was flowing into the Vaal River, which we all heard about.
We also sent the deputy president here and we sent several ministers to address the challenge.
“I am glad to hear from the premier today as he was reporting to me, which he also said that the challenge of sewerage, sanitation is being addressed on an ongoing basis.”
Gauteng Premier David Makhura, who was also present at the imbizo, also attributed Sedibeng’s problems to political and administrative instability.
He said ageing infrastructure has contributed to the sewerage leaks and spills.
“The infrastructure is aging and not being properly maintained. Water, sanitation and electricity and roads because of our municipalities.
Generally, our municipalities in the Vaal including the district do not have the financial base to be able to cope with the infrastructure. Some of this infrastructure is 60 years old and that is why we have a sewer leakage problem.”
Ramaphosa will continue his imbizos in the remaining provinces after visiting Gauteng, the Free State, Mpumalanga and North West.
