Government officials hopeful kidnapped SA man will return unharmed

The Department of International Relations is hopeful the South African man who was kidnapped in Nigeria will be returned to his family unharmed.
Government has confirmed that a 35-year-old South African national is among 7 people - including Australians, Nigerians and a New Zealander - kidnapped after their vehicle was ambushed on the outskirts of Calabar, in Nigeria, this week.
Spokesperson Nelson Kgwete says the family has been informed and it's up to them if they want to make his identity public.
"We have not heard from the kidnappers," he said.
"There has been no lead so far. It all depends on what comes out of the intervention that we are putting together working with the Nigerian government and the Australian High Commission," Kgwete said.
