The Minister has met with three provincial executives - including KZN - in preparation for his Medium Term Budget Policy Statement in in Parliament next week.

Gordhan says the meetings are to determine the financial constraints experienced by the provinces.

He has added that although it's hard to predict how the economy will perform, the country's economic growth needs to improve so that enough revenue can be collected for expenditure.

"Our aim in the short-term is to make sure that we collect enough revenue to pay for this year's expenditure. We' re not there at the moment and we're hoping to get there in the next year or two," he said.

Meanwhile, Gordhan opted not to answer questions relating to the charges levelled against him by the NPA - saying the matter is sub judice.

Gordhan will present the budget speech in Parliament next Wednesday.
