Gordhan denies approaching Solidarity to help Eskom
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The Department of
Public Enterprises has denied claims that Minister Pravin Gordhan approached
trade union Solidarity for help to fix the skills crisis at Eskom.
This after Solidarity chief executive Dirk Hermann shared a letter from Gordhan in which the minister requests a list of people with the necessary technical skills that could help the struggling power utility.
But the department says Gordhan did not approach Solidarity specifically, but rather all organisations with skilled personnel.

“The minister did not approach Solidarity. He simply made a call to all organisations including social partners, for skilled personnel regardless of race to avail themselves to be placed at Eskom,” says spokesperson Richard Mantu.
An exodus of skilled personnel is one of the reasons the power utility is battling to keep the lights on.
