Goods worth R20-million seized at Durban airport

Customs officials have made three separate busts at Durban's King Shaka International Airport today.

"SARS Customs officials and their Detector Dog Unit intercepted heroin, illegal skin lightening cream, and over 7000 branded football shirts suspected to be counterfeit. The shipment was detained for further investigation," says spokesperson Sandile Memela.

He confirmed the combined value of the confiscated goods amount to over R20 million.

Memela says the heroin was destined for Liberia. 

The skin lightening creams - marked as hair extensions - arrived from Lagos and were destined for Durban.

The fake football jerseys came from Hong Kong, via Dubai and had also been destined for Durban.
