KZN man caught with R10m at Cape Town airport

A man believed to be from Pietermaritzburg is in a Cape Town court today after being found with undeclared currency at Cape Town International Airport.

Hawks spokesperson, Lloyd Ramovha says the 38-year-old had two suitcases containing South African and foreign currency to the value of R10 miilion.

Ramovha says the man was headed to Dubai.

"Custom officials impounded just over R10-million in currency. Members from our Serious Commercial Crime Unit were summoned on the scene for investigations. He is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate's Court on Thursday and is facing charges for contravening the Customs and Exercise Act which amounts to failure to declare," he says.

Officials say they will be investigating where the money was taken and meant to be delivered.
