Godongwana: ANC remains committed to renewal
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has moved to assure the business sector that the ANC remains committed to renewal and service to South Africans.
He addressed a business breakfast on the sidelines of the ANC’s national conference on Saturday morning.
Godongwana failed in his bid to make it to the top 6 but is a candidate for the party’s incoming national executive committee.
His remarks come amid concern over the state of the party, and the impact its internal struggles have on service delivery to communities.
He said the party is working towards renewing itself and providing improved leadership.
“We wish to assure you that we are on a course, at a political level to rebuild, renew the African National Congress so that it should be able to provide the leadership it has done, and to win the elections because if we don’t, we go into this coalitions that are unreliable, our experience in municipalities is bad.

“The second element of this is to grow this economy. The third element is regrowing this economy to continue to provide support to those that are vulnerable, how that support is we are going to have to make the necessary trade-offs," Godongwana added.
Godongwana also moved to ease fears that a change in party leadership would see the implementation of a raft of new policies.
“Let me just say whoever the person win, will pursue ANC policies, we don’t have people having policies in their pockets. There may be change, of style, change of emphasis, that happens with any presidential change and other change on style of leadership but not necessarily policy,” the minister said.
