An investigation into a shooting and stabbing incident at the Glebelands Hostel in Umlazi, south of Durban is ongoing while two cases of murder have been opened.

At the weekend, a resident was stabbed to death while in a separate incident a man was shot and killed after being confronted by a group of suspects. Two others were wounded in the attack.

The police's Thulani Zwane has urged tenants to alert police of those in possession of unlicensed firearms.

"The police are still deployed in the Glebelands Hostel. They are doing their patrols and trying to normalise the situation and this is why we are appealing to anyone who might have any information about these suspects who are allegedly shooting and killing innocent people to give us information," he said.

This comes as the National Special Investigations Unit was redeployed following the Public Protector's visit at the hostel last month. No arrests have been made.
