Some residents at the troubled Glebelands Hostel in Umlazi feel cameras installed there have not helped crack down on violence.

The comment follows another attack at the hostel on Sunday night.

In the latest incident a 26-year-old man was allegedly shot at by unknown suspects.

Police say he was able to escape without injury. This resident says security cameras are only focused on certain areas.

He claims blocks 52 and 57 do not have any surveillance.

''I'm one of the people who survived after being shot on August 9 last year. That wasn't the first time either.

''I've been attacked many times to the point where I stopped working because I didn't know if I would make it to work alive. The cameras have not helped at all,'' he said.

Meanwhile, The Gift of the Givers yesterday distributed food parcels to hundreds of people who have lost family members in the violence.

The relief organisation says 44 people have been killed there since March last year.
