Glebelands Hostel residents 'living in fear'
Some residents of Glebelands Hostel in Umlazi, south of Durban, believe the only solution to the spate of killings in the area is to meet with representatives from the various blocks and the municipality.
At least 60 people have been killed at the hostel since last year.
Yesterday, Public Protector Thuli Madonsela conducted an inspection in loco following complaints about alleged inaction by provincial government and the police.
One resident Lucas Ndlovu says people are living in fear.
"People are very scared, they're very scared, I don't want to lie. You never know when the next killing will be. The perpetrators just come out of the blue, kill someone and then leave.
"They're not from here. They're from different blocks within the hostel. It's also very congested here. That's the other problem that we have," he said.
