A five-year-old girl who was left inside a state car that was hijacked in KwaMaphumulo has been found.

It's understood a social worker was transporting her from a shelter to her home on Thursday evening when they were accosted by hijackers.
KZN Social Development's Vukani Mbele says the social worker was able to escape, but the car thieves made off with the car and the child still inside.

"Fortunately, earlier this morning, we got reports that the child has been dumped outside our offices in Greytown. She appeared to be fine. However, she was taken to hospital for medical examination."
Mbele says the social worker is also receiving support.
"If you are involved in such a situation, you do get some disturbances. The social worker offered social support to help her deal with the situation."
Police are working to track down the car.
