Girl (9) drowns in Zinkwazi day camp

KZN police have opened an inquest docket after a 9-year-old girl drowned while swimming in a pool at a day camp in Zinkwazi on the north coast.

According to reports from the scene the child disappeared while swimming with other children around lunch time yesterday. The life guards on duty retrieved the girl from the water before medics could arrive.
IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst says paramedics tried to resuscitate the child but sadly it was too late.
"Apparently all the children were swimming and then they got out for lunch and later they realised the 9-year-old girl was at the bottom of the pool and she was declared 'dead' on scene", he said.
"Parents should keep an eye on their children to ensure they are safe. It is not someone else's responsibility to look after your young one", Herbst said.
