Updated | By Natarah Nadesan
A child has been seriously hurt in a single-vehicle collision on the M19 highway on Tuesday morning.

The 12-year-old girl and her mother were travelling towards Durban when their bakkie crashed down an embankment between the Dunkeld Road and the Otto Volek Road offramp.
While it's not clear what caused the vehicle to veer off the road - reports from the scene are that the bakkie aquaplaned in rainy weather.
"When ambulances arrived on scene, they found tow-trucks and two off-duty doctors," says Meditech Emergency Response's Derrick Banks."

"When paramedics assessed further, they found a 12-year-old in a very serious condition. She was treated on scene with advanced life-support intervention.
"The mother, who was the driver, was treated for minor to moderate injures. Both patients were stabilised on scene and transported to a hospital for further medical care."
