George father gets life for sleep-over rapes
Updated | By Algoa FM News
A father from George, convicted of raping seven young girls during sleep-overs with his daughter at their Denneoord home last year has been handed 37 life sentences.
He was sentenced in the George Regional Court in the Western Cape today.
In January, the man pleaded guilty to 67 counts of the more than 3-thousand charges against him after entering a plea agreement with the State.
Some of the 67 charges are pornography-related.
Women and Men Against Child Abuse followed the trial closely and attended this morning's court proceedings.
The organisation's spokesperson Yvette Wilschut says the sentence is fitting for the offence.
"The fact that this father got 37 life sentences is absolutely fantastic and a relief for all the families. He also got the extra ten years for the 29 charges of pornography against him," she said.
