Gender rights group calls for harsh punishment in sexual crime cases

An NPO is calling on the courts to impose harsher punishments in child exploitation and trafficking cases.
Sonke Gender Justice says the court must send a clear and loud message that those who use theirs, or any child in such a matter, will be held accountable."
It's been commenting after a KZN father was arrested by investigators looking into the circumstances of his child's disappearance.
The 14-year-old north coast girl was reported to have been kidnapped from outside her school in Isenembe a week ago. Police say she was found walking with a 23-year-old undocumented foreign national in Verulam on Friday.

He was detained. The girl's father was taken into custody yesterday by the Umhlali Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offence Unit.
He's facing human trafficking charges.
Bafana Khumalo's with the justice group. " It is gratifying though that the police broke this case so soon. The criminal justice system must ensure that all those responsible for this crime against the child are held accountable to the full extent of the law.
