Gauteng records 45 COVID-related deaths

A total of 78 Covid-19 fatalities was reported on Tuesday when Health Minister Zweli Mkhize released the latest stats.

Gauteng accounted for almost 58% of these fatalities. 

In the last 24-hour reporting cycle, the province lost 45 of its citizens to the dreaded disease. 

It is three times more than Monday, but could be due to delays in reporting by the province.

KwaZulu-Natal recorded 9 new fatalities, while Free State recorded 7. 

“Eastern Cape 1, Free State 7, Gauteng 45, KwaZulu Natal 9, Limpopo 7, Mpumalanga 4, North West 0, Northern Cape 2 and Western Cape 3,” Mkhize said.

The national death toll now stands at 52 788. 

The cumulative number of cases rose to 1 546 735. 

The recovery rate is steady at 95%.
