Gauteng police probe rape of eight women in Krugersdorp
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
The police in Gauteng are hunting for an unknown number of suspects who raped and robbed after eight women at gunpoint in Krugersdorp, west of Johannesburg.
Police spokesperson Brenda Muridili says a production company was shooting a music video on Thursday when they were attacked by a group of armed men.
The men allegedly fired several shots in the air, ordered everyone to lay down before raping the women in nearby bushes.
"Eight of the victims were allegedly raped by the suspects before robbing them of their belongings," says Muridili.
Provincial police commissioner Elias Mawela has mobilised maximum resources to hunt down the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa says he has instructed Police Minister Bheki Cele to leave no stone unturned in bringing the men to book.
He was speaking at the ANC policy conference in Nasrec on Friday morning.
"This morning we just heard of the horrible incident where a number of women in our country were abused,” Ramaphosa said.
“We have directed the minister of police and law enforcement agencies to immediately embark on this to make sure that the perpetrators of this crime are apprehended and dealt with. Comrade Bheki Cele has already been there, and we are following up on this horrible incident.”
