City of Joburg mayoral committee member Ros Greef made the comment during a pre-election panel discussion last night.

Greef was asked if she believed the controversy around the spy tapes and Nkandla could impact the ANC at the polls.

Gauteng ANC leaders have gone on record about their concerns in the past and Greef admitted that these concerns had not gone away.

''We are concerned and maybe I should be open and honest and upfront. We are very concerned that the Nkandla issue as well as the spy tapes issue and other issues pertaining to the current president of the African National Congress is going to impact on the votes that we are receiving in Gauteng in general and in Johannesburg.

''We have heard people saying that however we are able to say that once we talk about local government, once we talk about the performance of Gauteng and particularly the city of Johannesburg under the leadership of Parks Tau - we are able to persuade people that when it comes to the local elections, it's about the leadership of that local government,'' she said.
