Gardener arrested for alleged murder of employer

A gardener arrested in connection with the robbery and murder of his 62-year-old employer in Pietermaritzburg, is to spend a week in police custody.

Douglas Mataula appeared in court this week.
The 35-year-old was arrested on Monday, in the Hilton area, where police found items that had been stolen from the home of Sharon-Lee Deetlets.
Her body was found her bedroom last Thursday. She had suffered various injuries to her body.

KZN SAPS spokesperson Thembeka Mbele says speakers, two cell phones and a DVD player were taken from her property.
"The suspect made his first court appearance yesterday in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court and he is remanded into custody until 12 January 2022 for a bail application hearing."
