Gamalakhe mom births baby in abandoned house without help

The quick actions of the community members of Gamalakhe, on the South Coast saved the life of a woman who gave birth to a baby in an abandoned house.
Paramedics rushed to the scene on Tuesday night, where the mother had gone into distress and delivered the baby without medical help.
Its believed the woman was on her way home.
Community members found the 25-year-old next to her newborn son when they called for help.

Kwazulu Private Ambulance Services' Craig Botha, says the mother was weak from the birth and could not attend to her baby or call for help.
"Community members found her and quickly phoned Gamalake SAPS, who then called emergency medical services."
"Paramedics found the baby to be in distress from a lack of oxygen. They treated treated the newborn baby and managed to stabilise the baby on scene," he said.

Botha says the little boy and his mother are recovering well in hospital.
