It comes after images emerged on social media on Monday of the stadium reported to be worth R15 million.

The municipality came under fire on social media over its basic features compared to the massive R15 million expenditure.

In a statement to Newswatch, the municipality's spokesperson Lonwabo Kowa says they are concerned about the public's reaction.

"The municipality regrets the manner in which the initial post was shared where minimal detail was provided.

"The construction of the sports facility commenced at the beginning of March 2020 following an Environmental Impact Assessment approved by DEDEAT authorising the project within the limits stated in the NEMA Act.

"Further investigations were also conducted to determine the suitability of the site to be developed into a sports field with associated structures – which include survey, geotechnical and geohydrological tests.

"The project scope entailed: Erection of 780 metres palisade fencing, construction of rugby and soccer field, rock blasting, earth works, layer works, athletics track, ablution facilities, change rooms, borehole drilling, rainwater catchment tank, high rise water main tank, sewer system with sceptic tank, electrical installation, guardhouse, steel grandstands."
