‘Fundamental mindshift needed for SA’: Lindiwe Sisulu

Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu believes South Africa needs a “fundamental mindshift” to help move the country forward.

She’s addressed journalists in Johannesburg in the run up to the party's policy conference at the end of next month.

“(We need) a fundamental mindshift to ensure that all those things that we put together in the Freedom Charter can be realised. We’ve carried part of the past with us in this period. We’ve got to move away from that, this is why we are now calling for a mindshift. To allow us to deal effectively with those very strong remnants of the past”, she said.

Meanwhile Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and Trevor Manuel have been speaking about problems within the ANC.

Ramaphosa says money and competition for resources are dividing the ruling party.

Former finance minister Manuel has bemoaned the state of the ANC under President Jacob Zuma's leadership. He was speaking at the annual Kader Asmal Memorial Lecture at University of Cape Town.

He believes the movement needs to be rebuilt.

“We must return the ANC to a movement that first attracted us. We must rebuild a movement that offers an inclusive basis for the involvement of the majority, not one that appears to exist for the protection of a single individual,” he said.
