Fuel prices set for steep jump in September

Motorists look set to be paying significantly more for petrol and diesel from Wednesday.

The Automobile Association says month-end data points to price jumps of R1.59 and R1.65 cents per litre for the two grades of petrol.

 

For those using diesel in their cars, prepare to pay R2.85 cents more per litre at the pumps.

 

The price of illuminating paraffin is expected to go up by R2.80 cents.

 

The AA's Layton Beard has some tips on how we can try to manage our consumption.

 

"The expected increases are largely being driven by higher international oil prices, which have risen on the back of slow demand and decreased output."

 

"Motorists will certainly feel the pinch in terms of higher prices at the pumps, but consumers across the board can expect higher prices for all goods and services because of these hikes. 


"In this environment, we reiterate our advice to motorists that they should keep their vehicles in good mechanical condition and their tyres inflated according to the manufacturer’s specifications to ensure optimal fuel usage. 

 

“Avoiding heavy traffic, not overloading the vehicle, and minimising driving where possible are other measures to decrease fuel consumption."
