Fuel association to explore ways to soften fuel prices

The Fuel Retailers Association says it's exploring several possibilities of lessening the impact of the high cost of fuel on South Africans.
The association on Wednesday began a two-day conference at Nasrec in Johannesburg.
Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine has sent prices soaring, as some governments have imposed economic sanctions on Russia, which is one of the world's largest exporters of oil.
Reggie Sibiya, who is the CEO of the association, says they'll be comparing the various forms of relief being offers to citizens in other parts of the world to mitigate against the price hikes.

"The public we see that the in areas like the UK government is playing a really significant role, people are getting vouchers or grants for petrol and food.
"So, we should be looking at those things, issues like the Road Accident Fund. Is it really needed in the petrol price structure? So we will be exploring all of those avenues and also how do we remain sustainable?"
