Fraud-accused Sanco officials get bail, return to court in March

The South African National Civic Organisation’s president and its outgoing general secretary have today made a brief appearance in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on fraud charges.
Richard Mdakane and Terence Mpanza are accused of generating false invoices and siphoning more than R1.1 million of funding - intended for skills development - into their own account.
A video - in which they appeared to be resisting arrest - was circulated on social media at the weekend.
The State did not oppose the pair's release on bail which was set at R15 000 each.

They were however, ordered to hand over their laptops as well as their passports to police by the end of the day. They will be back in the dock at the end of March.
