Framework to support small businesses at the centre of Durban summit

Speaking at the Radical Economic Transformation Framework Summit in Durban, eThekwini mayor - Zandile Gumede says there are a number of major investments in the pipeline.
The Radical Economic Transformation Framework, still to be developed into a policy, will see small businesses grow with the help of larger enterprises that are compelled to subcontract to them.
Gumede says the summit is a platform to discuss the framework, which will help shape the finer details of the policy.

She says investing in Durban creates opportunities for businesses across the city.
"Our teams are working with national treasurer and the World Bank group to explore and define several global best practices for eThekwini. These are in our city support programme aspect of the built environment performance plan which helps to co-ordinate our planning, infrastructure and service delivery investments," she said.

While the municipality's deputy head for Policy and Support Services, Zandile Sithole says the framework will guide the city's contribution to economic empowerment in all communities.
"We are to ensure that there are no barriers to entry. When we package our project, we package it in a manner that will attract small, medium and all enterprises," she said.
