The vehicles crashed in the vicinity of Queen Nandi Drive and Rosary Road. Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson says two men and a woman died on scene.

"Paramedics were busy resuscitating one woman from the car. Unfortunately, two men believed to be in their 20s had already passed away. One person had sustained moderate injuries and transported to hospital. After half an hour of trying to resuscitate the woman, she had passed away due to the severity of her injuries," he said.

Emergency services say the vehicle the baby and three other people had been travelling in rolled several times on the N2 near Umhlali.

IPSS Medical Rescue says the occupants of the vehicle were initially unable to locate the little girl.

However, they had found her some distance from the wreckage and unresponsive by the time paramedics reached the scene.
