Four killed, at least 13 hurt in overnight KZN storm

KZN Emergency Medical Rescue Service paramedics were kept busy during last night's storm in and around the Durban area that's left four people dead.
The service's paramedics responded to a number of call-outs due to floods, strong winds and lightning that accompanied the storm.
Spokesperson, Robert McKenzie, says the four from Verulam and Mayville areas were killed by lightning while numerous other injuries were reported.
"Paramedics from KZN EMRS treated at least 13 people who had been injured following structural collapses resulting from last night's storm. Some were hurt when entire houses collapsed while one incident saw a partial collapse of a wall.
"In one incident the roof was blown off a house. One person was also seriously injured when a tree fell on top of a car in Essenwood road in Durban," he said.
