Former Parktown Boys' High School assistant water polo coach Collan Rex has been sentenced to 23 years behind bars.

The Palm Ridge Magistrates Court sentenced Rex to 20 years imprisonment for sexual assault and a further three years for common assault on Thursday.
The 23-year-old initially faced 327 charges but pleaded guilty to 144 counts of sexual assault and 12 counts of common assault.
The court acquitted him of some of the charges.

National Prosecuting Authority's Phindi Mjonondwane says the sentencing is a victory for the victims of violent crimes, especially women and children.
"And it could not have come at a better time than now when we are commemorating 16 days of activism against violence perpetrated on women and children,” she says.
"This is a victory for our boys who are in an education system to better themselves and did not bargain for such violation of their rights."
Mjonodwane says the NPA commends the school principle’s bravery for reporting the allegations.
