Forestry Congress: call for youth participation
Updated | By Zongile Mthimkhulu
The youth are being called on to take on a more active role in matters related to forestry.
This has come out of the World Forestry Congress in its fourth day today in Durban.
The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation says with challenges such as deforestation because of the population explosion, young people need to know why there is a fuss around the conservation of indigenous forests.
The organisation's Elaine Springgay says more awareness is needed on the role of forests in the world.
"What were trying to do here is to really integrate forest management practices, taking into consideration a larger landscape and more importantly acknowledging the role forests play in the food, water and energy in excess," she said.
