Forensic Pathology strike an inconvenience: DA
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The DA says the workers' strike at the Forensic Pathology Unit in Pietermaritzburg could not have come at a more inconvenient time.
Employees downed tools this week over salary grading and working conditions.
The DA's Imran Keeka says they have written to health officials on what the long-term solutions are being implemented regarding the concerns raised.
"The ongoing nature of the problem, we hope will be addressed. Why are these families suffering, why is their strife on the ground, why do people have to suffer especially during this time of the year, when families are supposed to be getting together, they are made to suffer even more because of the losses that they have endured?" he asked.
The Department of Health's Ncumisa Mafunda says they have met with workers and have prioritised their grievances.
She says they have instructed all forensic pathologists to return to work.
"There are ongoing discussions. There are numerous issues that the department is looking at and some of those issues are getting revoked as we move on," she said.
