Forensic investigation into R612 crash that claimed 11 lives

A preliminary investigation into Thursday's fatal accident in southern KwaZulu-Natal suggests a minibus taxi collided head-on with an oncoming tipper truck on the R612.

The crash happened between Ixopo and Highflats.
Eleven people have died as a result of the crash.
The KZN Transport Department says of the seven victims were female and six were male.
Twelve others were injured, with some of them seriously hurt.
The department says the crash happened at a construction site but that there was visible signage for traffic.
Spokesperson Kwanele Ncalane says MEC Peggy Nkonyeni will visit the accident scene on Friday morning.
"MEC Nkonyeni has activated all the structures including the road traffic inspectorate, South African Police Service and other agencies with investigating this matter to conduct a forensic investigation and make sure this matter is investigated thoroughly."
