Folweni victim's aunt demands justice
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
The aunt of a 22-year-old woman from Folweni, south of Durban whose body was discovered under her boyfriend's bed last month feels the justice system needs to come down harder on criminals.
Nomusa Myeza has been speaking to Newswatch ahead of the suspect's bail application in the Nsimbini Magistrate's Court on Friday. Her niece Mbali had been dating the man for two months before she was fatally stabbed.
The annual crime stats released yesterday put KwaZulu-Natal as the country's murder capital.
3 810 murders occurred in the province in the last financial year, an increase of about 5.4%.
Myeza believes stricter punishment is needed.
"I'm still heartbroken and I won't heal easily because the law is not being effective. People are still killing others like chickens. This man can't get bail and be free while Mbali remains dead," she said.
The number of murders nationally increased by 4.6%.
