Folweni residents, south of Durban, say they are still willing to engage with the leadership of the regional ANC to add Sisulu Xumayo to the list of 4 candidates to run for councillor in the upcoming local government elections.
Protestors took to the streets demanding the number 1 candidate, Mthokozisi Xulu, be removed from the list. Several vehicles, an office building and a community hall were torched.
The ANC’s regional leaders were due to address the community this week but the meeting fell through when shots were fired. Resident Nhlakanipho Nxumalo the situation currently has the potential to compromise the voting process of the local government elections.
If elections come and this isn't sorted no one will vote in this ward- the community has threatened to torch schools as well. ANC regional leadership doesn't respect the community.
