'Focus on strides made in gay rights movement'

A Durban-based advocacy group says it's horrified at the massacre of 49 people at a gay nightclub in the US.
The Gay and Lesbian Community and Health Centre in KZN says the attack is even more shocking as it comes at a time when people observe Pride Month.
The centre's Nonhlanhla Mkhize says this is a time to reflect on the achievements in fighting for liberation and equality in the gay and lesbian communities.
"To have something like this happen at this time to our community within such a liberal and democratic country is horrifying," she said.
Omar Mateen opened fire in the Orlando club before he was shot and killed by police, bringing the death toll to 50. At least 53 other people were hurt in the assault.
Meanwhile, people attending Pride in London are being asked to be vigilant.
Organisers say they're working closely with police and are reviewing security for the event.
Millions of people are expected to attend the two-week festival that ends with a parade on June 25.
