eThekwini says its Emergency Unit is doing everything it can to assist those affected by heavy flooding in the municipality over the weekend.
Homes and roads have been badly damaged in several areas including Umlazi, Chatsworth, Reservoir Hills and Seacow Lake.
eThekwini's Thulani Mbatha says a number of families living in informal settlements in Umlazi and a transit camp in Isipingo had to be evacuated after a nearby river burst its banks.

KZN disaster teams have also been mobilised.
Spokesperson Lennox Mabaso says most of the crews were sent to Durban.
"We also urge motorists to exercise caution on the roads because we have seen a number of roads that are waterlogged.
"We don't want them to take any unnecessary risks and indeed we have our hands full in trying to manage the situation.
"We ask our communities to make sure that they are facing a difficulty or they are seeing danger they should contact our Toll free disaster number on 0800 000 953," he said.
