Floods: Disaster relief aid for affected Durban families

eThekwini Municipality says it's providing relief to more than 320 people who have been affected by floods following the heavy rains in the city.

It says teams for its Disaster Management Centre have been on the ground assisting with the help of non-governmental organisations and the provincial government.
Barely two weeks after fires ripped through the Siyathuthuka informal settlement in Durban's Sea Cow Lake area, residents have been dealt another blow after heavy rains swept away many homes.
About 50 residents have been camping out on Johanna Road which has been sealed off from members of the public with various objects including furniture.
This, while community leaders are documenting all those who've lost their homes over the last few weeks.
It's understood a tent will be brought to the area to house those who are without shelter.
Community leader Nhlanhla Mbili says residents are very angry and explains why.
"The situation is very tense right now residents want to protest over the fact that they slept out in the cold last night because of the heavy rains that damaged their homes. The community is very angry and they're taking it that the city council does not care about them," he said.
