Nicole Bollman says the torrential rains led to severe damage and flooding at many homes north of Durban.

Torrential rain hit parts of eThekwini and the north coast on Saturday night.

Five people have been killed, while two others are still missing.

Bollman says a number of boundary walls collapsed, and extensive damage was caused to the roads in the area.

"We've got Chartwell, closed completely due to the land flood. Quite a substantial amount of the road went into the property below it. And then Newlands Drive, in Newlands Drive, people are still stranded in their houses due to the fact that they can't get out of their driveway."

“There's quite a bit going on today. We've got properties without electricity, mostly La Lucia and Umhlanga."

She says over the past few years her ward has experienced a number of issues.

"We progress one step, and we back another 10, and that's including the storm-water story. We've had quite a substantial amount of storm-water problems that were created in 2022."
