Five killed in Umhlanga R102 crash

Five people have been killed and two others left critically injured following a crash on the R102, near Umhlanga, north of Durban.

Emergency Officials say the Jaws of Life were used to extract two other victims, including a 15-year-old girl, trapped in the vehicle.

Netcare911's Nick Dollman says the cause of last night's accident is being investigated.
"The two vehicles involved were significantly damaged and paramedics attended to seven people. Tragically five people, three females and two males, died of injuries at the scene.
"Two teenage occupants were trapped in one of the vehicles. Firefighters used the jaws of Life to free them from the wreckage. A fifteen-year-old was placed on ventilator on scene," he said.
