Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Authorities are investigating the cause of a single vehicle crash that claimed five lives on the N3 near Westville yesterday afternoon.

Four other people who had been travelling in the SUV were taken to hospital for further care.
Emergency services say the vehicle rolled off the freeway, coming to a rest in Conway Road.
"On examination, it was found that nine people had been in the vehicle at the time of the collision. Four had been ejected whilst the vehicle was rolling. A further five people were entrapped in the wreckage and with the help of the Durban Fire Department, the patients were freed," Rescue Care’s Garrith Jamieson says.

Jamieson says the two women and three men were declared dead at the scene.
