Five dead, three injured in N2 crash
Updated | By Nothando Mkhize
Five people have been killed in a crash involving a bakkie on the N2 near Tugela.
The Road Traffic Inspectorate's Zinhle Mngomezulu says three others were injured in the head-on collision on Saturday.
"The cause of the accident is unknown at this stage. Five counts of culpable homicide will be investigated," says Mngomezulu.
"Three people sustained injuries and at the moment they are being treated on scene and they will be transported to Stanger Hospital."
Meanwhile, on the N3 a truck crash in the Peter Brown Interchange, near Town Hill in Pietermaritzburg, is causing traffic congestion and delays.
Mngomezulu says it is going to take them a few hours to complete the clean-up operations.
"The runaway truck driver failed to control failed to control it and it overturned. While that truck had overturned, another truck behind it tried to avoid it and also unfortunately overturned on the north-bound."
She says both bounds are affecting traffic flow.
"Now we have got both bounds, which is north and south Town Hill, closed to traffic due to that accident. Luckily there were no injuries on scene and the north bound has got an oil spillage that's why it is closed to traffic."
