Port officials are allowing five cruise liners to dock in Durban this week.
The carnival cruise ships have been given the green light to refuel and restock under strict COVID-19 safety protocols.
The vessels are taking crew members back to India and East Asia.
Acting Chief Harbour Master, Sabelo Mdlalose says the cruise industry's been left in limbo by the global pandemic.
"We would like to assure the public that passenger vessels that are coming into our ports are not here for any activities that have been banned.
"However, as an international community, we are only allowing these passenger vessels to dock in our ports in order to be able to access essential services such as bunkers the replenishment of stalls."
