Fire rips through informal dwellings in Durban North

About twenty families in Durban North are without homes after a fire destroyed their dwellings.

The eThekwini Fire Department says the blaze at Sim Place in Effingham broke at about 11pm on Monday.
There were no reported injuries.
Firefighter, Bheki Hadebe says they suspect the fire started in one of the structures before spreading to others.

It took them about two hours to douse it due to challenges with the water hydrants in the area. The cause has not yet been established.
Hadebe is urging residents to be extra careful should they need to light fires.
