Fire breaks out at metro police pound in Isipingo

More than twenty vehicles have been damaged in a fire at a Metro Police pound in Isipingo, south of Durban.

The fire broke out earlier at the pound on Phila Ndwandwe Road.
It is not yet known how the blaze started but emergency services say there are no reported injuries.
The eThekwini Fire Department's Xolani Zikali, says they have managed to contain the fire and have cleared out the area.
"The fire was in the pound behind the Metro Police offices in Isipingo. A minimum of 28 cars including a caravan were burnt. The fire has been contained and extinguished, using about three rescue pumper's and a water tank," he said.
A year ago, a fire that broke out in Queensburgh led to the impounding of about 100 vehicles.
