Financial lifeline for successful uMlalazi Municipality matriculants
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
While many successful matriculants with financial backing prepare to start the next chapter of their lives at various tertiary institutions this is not the case for some from poor rural communities.

This week, the Department of Basic Education released the results of thousands of hopefuls who sat to write their final year matric exams at the end of last year.
Those in the uMlalazi Municipality who have made it but won't be able to afford registration fees have been thrown a life line.
The Municipality's Mayor Thelumoya Zulu says about R300 000 has been set aside in the form of the Mayoral Bursary Registration Fund for struggling students.
"One they are entered into university they will be able to access funding from NSFAS and bursaries that are obtainable in institutions. We are going to be assisting about 200 learners, however I must emphasize that we assist both FETs and universities. There is no discrimination if a learner is not going to a traditional university", he said.
Meanwhile the Department of Basic Education has promised to act decisively against those leaked Matric papers in Limpopo,Mpumalanga and Gauteng.
