Field's Hill: Truck owner makes first court appearance
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The owner of Sagekal Logistics, the company that owns one of the trucks that ploughed into numerous vehicles on Fields Hill, killing 24 people in 2013 had appeared in the Verulam Magistrate's Court today.
It was Gregory Govender's first appearance since the tragedy.
After a lengthy delay to the start of proceedings - the matter finally got under way.
Govender sat quietly on one of the benches supported by a few people he had arrived with.
Once things got under way the state's Denardo McDonalds asked that the matter be postponed to allow prosecution time to obtain copies of liquidation documents.
Govender has reportedly applied to have the company liquidated.
McDonalds says the prosecution expect to secure the documents in question by next Monday. Govender's attorney, Theasen Pillay did not object to the request.
Magistrate R. Parshotam agreed to the postponement while Govender will be back in court on August 12.
