Few arrests made in KZN amid national shutdown

KZN provincial police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has confirmed that a few arrests have been made in connection with the national shutdown.

"These few arrests we have effected for people who are blocking the road, refusing to disperse and other than that it is just normal crimes. They have been recovering firearms as they do stop and searches."
He has been giving an update on the EFF protests happening nationwide, including in KZN from midnight.
There's been reports of sporadic disruptions overnight but they were quickly defused by police.

EFF supporters have also gathered outside their Glenwood offices.
Mkhwanazi says they started deployment on Friday.
"As KZN police, we haven't received any notice for marches. If we would have received a notice and planned for it. We don't know what they are going to to next, but we remain alert."
