Fears grow as dry spell persists in northern KZN

Some communities in northern KZN fear the worst is yet to come for rural areas devastated by the drought.

Insufficient rainfall to date is making some people question how they'll survive the dryer winter months.
Newswatch's Anelisa Khubeka has spent two days in northern KZN - one of the hardest hit areas to see firsthand how residents there are coping.
After a dry spell last month, residents in the Zululand District have running water flowing from their taps again.
Even if it lasts a few hours. But those in Mnqobokazi in the Umkhanyakude District still struggle for just a drop.

In Zululand, those who live further away from the town of Ulundi feel neglected by the municipality whom they say doesn't send water tankers to the area.
In Jozini, a mother of five told Newswatch that she bathes all four of her school-going children with the same tub of water. She then uses the same water to do some washing before using it to flush the toilet.
Those who do have access to some clean water have simply stopped sharing it with animals.
