The family of the councillor candidate who was shot and killed in Pietermaritzburg has called for political tolerance.
The Economic Freedom Fighters' (EFF) Thulani Shangase was gunned down in Plessislaer on Sunday night.
It's understood he was returning from an EFF campaign meeting when he was attacked.
The police's political task team is investigating the murder.
His nephew Sfiso Shangase says his family is devastated.
"If a person is a member of a specific political party we need not kill each other but why can't we persuade one another then on the basis of ideology.
"The only message that we want to convey to South Africans is that we are pleading with everyone that as much as we lost our loved one but let this be the first and the last one which is going to be related to political intolerance."
Police Minister Bheki Cele visited the family on Wednesday.
